The Yankees acquired Ryan Weathers in a trade with the Miami Marlins, the Daily News confirmed Tuesday.
The move was first reported by YES Network’s Jack Curry.
The Marlins received a haul of four minor leaguers in exchange for the starter: outfielders Dillon Lewis and Brendan Jones and infielders Dillon Jasso and Juan Matheus.
Sportsgrid’s Craig Mish was first on the minor leaguers in the deal.
Weathers, who appeared in just eight games in 2025 while dealing with injuries, recorded a 3.99 ERA for the Marlins. He struck out 37 batters in 38.1 innings of work.
The left-hander had a 3.74 ERA over 24 starts the last two years, but also has experience pitching out of the bullpen.
Weathers, 26, won’t be a free agent until 2029.
He will likely build up as a starter in training camp, which begins next month.
The Yankees can then decide how they’ll use Weathers as spring training progresses. The left-hander’s arrival could give manager Aaron Boone a swingman option for the team, similarly to the role of fellow lefties Ryan Yarbrough and Paul Blackburn.
Weathers could be plugged into the starting rotation to begin the regular season with the Yankees not expecting Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon and Clarke Schmidt to be ready for Opening Day.
The addition also gives the team another option to rely on with Will Warren, Cam Schlittler and Max Fried all coming off career-high workloads in 2025.
Ryan Weathers now is set to wear the same pinstripes his father, David, wore in 1996 and 1997.
David Weathers appeared in 21 games across two seasons for the Bombers.
He allowed one run in 11 innings during the 1996 postseason.
