WWE's Alexa Bliss talks evolving characters, Bray Wyatt's legacy and her most starstruck moment on 'The Finish with Kor & Tor'

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Ahead of her Oct. 17 appearance on WWE Friday Night Smackdown in San Jose, The Finish with Kor & Tor caught up with WWE superstar Alexa Bliss to talk about her comeback, memorable moments, and what fans can expect next.

The multi-time champion opened up about her evolution from “Glittered Glitz” to one of WWE’s most layered characters, reflected on her connection to Bray Wyatt, and even shared the one celebrity who left her completely starstruck.

The Finish: How are you feeling heading into SmackDown this week?

Alexa Bliss: “I’m excited. You know, everyone’s coming off of Crown Jewel, so everyone’s pretty pumped about that. We have a great show lined up for San Jose. I’m hoping to have a match because I think, you know, it’s been a minute since Charlotte [Flair] and I have defended our Tag Team Championships. So maybe that’ll be something we see in San Jose. I can only hope, but it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

The Finish: When you first started in NXT, you debuted as the glittery, bubbly Alexa Bliss before transitioning into the heel manager role with Blake and Murphy. How was that shift for you?

Alexa Bliss: “That was something I was kind of thrown into, to be honest. That was a sink-or-swim situation. I had been, you know, the first version of Alexa Bliss, the sparkly tutu, all that stuff. That was just part of my main love for Disney. So that was, okay, what do I know? Because I was kind of thrown into my debut as well. Paige had been moved up to the main roster, then the NXT title was vacant.

“I remember I was at promo class and Chris Chambers came up to me and goes, so you’re going to debut tomorrow? And I was like, I don’t have a character. And he said, what did you do your last promo class? And I was like, I wore a tutu and blue glitter. He goes, great, do that.”

“And so that’s where that character was kind of born. But then when I joined Blake and Murphy, it was kind of like a light bulb that went off. It was an overnight transition too. Michael Hayes was asking me, he goes, where’s your red hair? I said, I don’t have red hair. And he goes, well, you’re evil now, you need to have red hair.”

“So I had to dye my hair red. I wanted to be the mean girl from high school that girls hated but secretly wanted to be, and the guys couldn’t stand but secretly wanted to date. A little bit of Regina George, a little bit of people I’ve met along the way.

“If it wasn’t for teaming with Blake and Murphy, there would be no Alexa Bliss that we see today because that first version of me would not have done anything.”

The Finish: How would you compare the Alexa from 2017–2018 to the one we’re seeing now?

Alexa Bliss: “I try not to repeat the same thing that I’ve done. I love to transition a character, evolve, and change. So right now, I kind of feel like this character’s a little bit of a mesh of a few things.”

“I have some plans on where she’s going next, which I can’t really say. But right now, we’re seeing a little bit of the dark Alexa, a little bit of the goddess peeking through every once in a while.”

“This version of Alexa is finding trust again — where does she fit in the world of trusting people? Because everyone that she’s ever had, she’s either stabbed in the back or has left her. That’s why Charlotte and I are not always on the same page, and that’s what makes it so fun.”

The Finish: Survivor Series is coming up — if you could build your own team, past or present, male or female, who’s on it?

Alexa Bliss: “Ooh, who would I be putting on my team? Well, if I could put Bray, I’d put Bray. But we’ll say Bray. Bray, Rhea Ripley because she’s big and intimidating. AJ Lee because why not? She’s an icon. We need the AJ Lee. Me, right? I’m a part of that team. And then I would have John Cena — and that’d be his last match.”

The Finish: If you could book a dream match today across WWE, TNA, or AAA, who would it be?

Alexa Bliss: “I would love to have another tag match with The IInspiration. They’re the champs now, and you and Charlotte — you’re the champs. Bell for bell, title for title, let’s go.”

The Finish: John Cena recently paid tribute to Bray Wyatt during Crown Jewel Perth, which brought out the fireflies. What was your reaction watching that?

Alexa Bliss: “I thought that was really cool. I was super bummed to not be in there in that moment because it was so cool. Anything that keeps Windham Bray’s tribute alive, I think is so awesome. For Cena to hit the Sister Abigail and for the WWE Universe to immediately pull out the fireflies — I think that’s so cool.”

“I always love when there’s something that brings it back to what was, for me, one of the most fun and creative times in my entire career. I miss that time so much, so anytime something reminds us of it, I love it.”

The Finish: You’re a big Disney fan, and you’ve worked with Halloween Horror Nights recently for the Wyatt Six house. What were your thoughts on that? And do you think Alexa Bliss will always be connected to the Wyatts?

Alexa Bliss: “The house is incredible. I’ve been to the Orlando one, I’m going to the LA one next week, but the Orlando one was so cool. There were so many little tributes and Easter eggs of Windham, Bray’s career in WWE.”

“It’s something Bray had always wanted — a house at Universal Horror Nights. So it’s so cool that it actually happened. I got to portray myself for about 45 minutes, which was so fun. They even had the Alexa Bliss “Lilly” [doll] there. The girl who portrayed me actually looked a lot like me, which was really kind of trippy.”

“I do think that Alexa Bliss is always going to be connected to the Wyatts in some way. Bray always said, ‘Alexa and I will always be connected, and when we do reconnect, it’s going to be something big.’ I think there’s always going to be some kind of tethering between the two of us.”

The Finish: Have you ever had a moment where you froze up meeting someone?

Alexa Bliss: “Yes, I was not expecting it. I was a huge Twilight fan growing up — my whole bedroom was Team Jacob. I was at a Kane Brown concert and Taylor Lautner was on stage. My friend ended up bringing him over and I totally fangirled.”

“He goes, ‘Your baby has beautiful eyes,’ and I said, ‘Thank you, they’re mine,’ because my daughter has my eyes. The rest of the day I kept telling my husband, ‘Did I tell you Taylor Lautner said he likes my eyes?’ And he’s like, ‘He complimented the baby’s eyes.’ Yeah, but they’re mine!”

The Finish: Alexa, thank you for joining us. We look forward to seeing you this Friday at SmackDown at the SAP Center in San Jose.

Alexa Bliss: “Thank you so much. I appreciate it.”
