ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – It’s October 1 and today is the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The goal is to make sure women get their yearly mammograms starting at age forty, or before, if there’s a family history, to detect any cancer in its earliest stages for the best possible outcome.
The American Cancer Society says as many as 317,000 new cases of breast cancer occur every year. For women who receive the diagnosis, you’re faced with some tough decisions. The course of treatment all depends on the stage of cancer and whether or not it has spread. However, it is important for women to know the general options available. Surgery is almost always part of the plan.
