Why haven't I received my Amazon refund? What you need to know

You could be one of the thousands of users who may still receive money as part of this settlement involving e-commerce giant Amazon.

The money is part of Amazon’s $2.5 billion settlement to resolve a major lawsuit brought by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which alleged that Amazon misled customers into signing up for Prime memberships and made cancellation excessively difficult once they were enrolled.

The first phase of automatic payments took place between November 12 and December 24, 2025. If you were eligible for this phase, you should have received an email from Amazon.

How much money could you receive?

The refund amount will equal the total Prime membership fees you paid during the length of your subscription, up to a maximum of $51.

What happens next?

In January 2026, Amazon began sending claim notices by mail or email to eligible Prime customers who did not receive an automatic refund between November and December 2025.

This notice includes instructions on how to submit a claim to receive your money.

How will the claim work in this second phase?

  • The claims portal officially opened on January 5, 2026. Click here to complete the form.
  • Amazon has until January 23, 2026 to notify eligible users by email or postal mail with specific instructions.
  • If you are eligible, you will have 180 days (approximately six months) from the date you receive the notification to submit your claim.

Who is eligible?

According to the FTC, refunds will go to an estimated 35 million people affected by “unwanted Prime enrollment or delayed cancellation.”

Court documents indicate that eligible customers are those who:

  • Subscribed to Amazon Prime for the U.S. marketplace between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, through the disputed enrollment process; or
  • Attempted unsuccessfully to cancel their Amazon Prime subscription for the U.S. marketplace by starting—but not completing—the online cancellation process, or by inadvertently accepting a Savings Offer during the online cancellation process during the period from June 23, 2019, to June 23, 2025.
