Why DIA won't play the Department of Homeland Security's video

DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver International Airport said Tuesday it is not playing a Department of Homeland Security video, but it’s due to the airport’s technological capabilities.

The Department of Homeland Security created a video regarding the federal government shutdown, with the plan that it would air in airports nationwide.

According to the Associated Press, the video features Homeland Security Secretary Christi Noem with a message that cites Democrats as the cause of the shutdown. It also highlights the impacts of the shutdown on the Transportation Security Administration’s operations, as employees are required to work unpaid.

Multiple airports, including those in New York, Atlanta, Las Vegas and Phoenix, said they would not play the video due to its political content.

However, a spokesperson for DIA told FOX31 that the airport’s travelers will not see the video as its monitors can only show flight information and cannot play videos or audio.

DHS stated to the Associated Press on Friday that the video was being rolled out to airports nationwide, but the spokesperson for DIA said they have not been asked to play it.

The federal government shutdown has already caused delays at airports nationwide, including DIA. Officials at DIA said to FOX31 previously that even though TSA and the Federal Aviation Administration are required to work, they “cannot guarantee that TSA and FAA staffing would not be affected.” However, travelers have the option to see real-time TSA security wait times on the airport’s website.
