Have you noticed a strange smell in the air?
Numerous residents in a Chicago suburb have called emergency responders to report a “an unknown odor in the air outdoors.”
The Oak Park Fire Department said it received “multiple calls” beginning Monday night “from all areas of the community.”
“Our crews investigated a significant portion of the Village, north and south, and did not find any credible public threats with monitoring devices,” the department wrote on social media.
Residents commented with reports of a foul smell in central Oak Park, as well as Chicago’s nearby Galewood neighborhood and in the neighboring suburb of Berwyn.
“We were wondering… but quickly determined it was not coming from inside our house…” one user wrote.
“It was awful,” another commented.
But while the source of the strange odor has not yet been identified, the department said it does not believe there is a risk to the public.
It wouldn’t be the first time a terrible smell has invaded the Chicago suburb.
In 2016, a mysterious odor plagued residents for days, leading many to even begin documenting when and where the smell hits the air on a tracking Facebook page.
