LEGOLAND California this week announced that its first new roller coaster in 20 years, the Galacticoaster, will open to the public in 2026.

Galacticoaster will be space-themed and housed inside a 30,000-square-foot building that stands more than 30 feet high, theme park officials said.

Currently being constructed by a crew of more than 500 people, the coaster will have 1,500 feet of track and take riders through the LEGO galaxy.

“Galacticoaster is going to launch LEGOLAND California into a whole new galaxy of fun,” said Flora Liu, senior project manager at Merlin Magic Making. “It’s our first coaster here in more than 20 years and part of Merlin’s largest-ever LEGOLAND investment – $90 million to bring Galacticoaster to both LEGOLAND California and LEGOLAND Florida.”

Liu said the inspiration for the coaster has come from “LEGO sets families have loved for decades, while layering in modern technology to create the most immersive and personalized coaster experience yet.”

LEGOLAND California opened to the public in 1999. Today, it’s home to more than 60 rides, shows and attractions, a seasonal water park, an aquarium and two hotels.

The theme park last opened new rides in 2015 with the creation of LEGO Movie World, which includes Emmet’s Flying Adventure and Unikitty’s Disco Drop.
