Watch LIVE: Plane lands on Interstate 15 during rush hour

A small aircraft made an emergency landing Monday afternoon on the I-15 in Serra Mesa.

The single-engine plane was able to land on its wheels in the southbound lanes of the freeway near Aero Drivem at about 4:45 p.m., and, remarkably, did so without coming into contact with any vehicles traveling on the freeway, according to the CHP.

The aircraft, a six-seater Cessna built in 2005, came to a halt in the breakdown lane at the center of the freeway and immediatley began impacting traffic in the area.

There were two men on board the plane when it landed. Neither man was hurt in the incident; both wore  Aeromechanix aviation services shirts.

According to the Cessna’s tail number, the plane is registered to an Encinitas company, Tellum Aviation Services, which is listed as an aircraft rental business in its business filing with the state.

Little more than 45 minutes later, FAA officials had arrived at the scene.
