Wandering NYC 5-year-old leads cops to house full of little kids, no adult

The mother of a 5-year-old boy found wandering alone in the dark outside a Queens laundromat early one morning this week is in custody and expected to face charges of reckless endangerment and acting in a manner injurious to a child, according to law enforcement sources with direct knowledge of the case.

A worker at the laundromat noticed the boy outside the Seagirt Boulevard business and called police.

That investigation prompted a video canvass that led police to a house where they found six other children, not including the child from the laundromat. They ranged in age from 1 to 11 years old.

Sources say the kids told police they hadn’t seen their mother since the day before.

On that day, the sources say, she was already in police custody awaiting arraignment on several charges, and she never told authorities that she had children at home.

The child at the laundromat, and the other children, were taken into the care of ACS. They are not believed to have been harmed.

The investigation is ongoing.
