EVERGREEN, Colo. (KDVR) — Footage straight from parents’ glasses and doorbell cameras captured the moments of terror high school students endured Wednesday at Evergreen High School.
An Evergreen parent’s Meta glasses captured the sights as lights and sirens rushed to the area where his kid goes to school. He watched kids being escorted while he waited to be reunited with his child, with limited information.
“There was a shooting at Evergreen High School, a small mountain community in Colorado,” you hear the dad say on the video. “God, this is so devastating. It is. These poor kids. Oh, God. We’ve thought about it for years and prayed it would never come here.”
A doorbell camera shared with FOX31 from an Evergreen resident captured a number of teens rushing away from the school, banging on nearby doors to get to safety. One teen is shown holding his heart as you hear others panting in fear.
“There were a lot of kids who ran and a lot of kids who locked down,” JCSO’s Jacki Kelley said. “It was just chaos.”
On Thursday, police were seen knocking on doors surrounding East High School as students were bused back to the parking lot to get their cars.
Sila Reilly, a nearby parent, placed flowers at the high school as a symbol of support.
“These flowers are for the students, and there’s 900 students that go here,” Reilly said. “And it just really touched me because my son will go to this school, He’ll be in this county and we live very close. So we just want them to feel seen. All of the families affected.”
Support services for the Evergreen community are being offered at Bergen Meadow Elementary School.
Local restaurant Cactus Jack’s is working to plan a benefit to support as well on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 2 p.m. to 1 a.m. The restaurant is planning to have live bands, an art therapy tent, retail vendors and some fun activities for kids and people to do together. The restaurant is also working to find charities that specialize in mental health and bullying to work together for the fundraiser, which will fund the families affected with medical costs or other costs.
The restaurant said that “A lot of Colorado breweries such as New Belgium, Elevation, Wibby, Tivoli and more” have offered to donate to the event or asked to support the cause.
