CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — A 74-year-old Clearwater man is lucky to be alive after good Samaritans helped pull him from his burning car on Friday.
It happened in front of a Little Caesars on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard at around 2:30 p.m., when the man’s Porsche caught fire in one of the eastbound lanes. Authorities did not say what caused the fire.
The man, unable to get himself out, was quickly trapped in the burning vehicle. Fortunately, two good Samaritans leapt into action.
One man, who was riding his motorcycle to work, helped extract the victim from the car with his helmet still on. He and another passerby successfully pulled the man, who appeared to have a prosthetic leg, out of the vehicle and away from the flames.
Other bystanders grabbed fire extinguishers and worked to put out the fire before first responders arrived.
Fortunately, the man escaped unscathed but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
