After a woman was killed in a possible DUI crash in Victorville, her friends and colleagues Friday tried to raise funds to transport her body to her homeland of El Salvador.
Rosa Lidia Caron, a mother of four, was on her way to work with her fiancé last Friday when an alleged drunk driver hit them at the corner of Mojave and Sixth Street two miles away from her workplace.
Her fiancé was recovering from a hospital Friday, but when he woke up after the crash, he fainted from the shock of learning Caron died following the collision. The couple was expected to get married next month after dating for two years.
Now her loved ones, including coworkers, are raising money to transport Caron, 47, to El Salvador where two of her children live.
“It hit home for a lot of us as parents,” said Rachel Ware, who worked with Caron at a medical clinic called Knolls West Post Acute.
Her colleagues said, although Caron worked at the clinic for less than a year, she made a big impact with her friendly personality.
“She always had a smile, candy and flyest scrubs,” said Ware. “(Her death) struck a nerve, and it’s painful.”
Authorities arrested Luis Eduardo Barstow, 19, for DUI and murder.
