Victim dies in Tenderloin shooting; suspect in custody

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A person who was shot in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district on Sept. 14 died from their injuries at the hospital, the San Francisco Police Department announced Friday.

“Despite the lifesaving efforts of the emergency responders and medical staff, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased in the hospital,” SFPD said.

The shooting happened in the area of Golden Gate Avenue and Turk Street around 6:31 p.m. Police found the gunshot victim at the scene and gave them emergency medical care before they were taken to the hospital by ambulance for life-threatening injuries.

That night, a suspect matching a description of the alleged shooter was found in Oakland and detained by the BART Police Department. That suspect was identified as 26-year-old Frank Garcia-Calloway.

“SFPD officers determined that the detained person was the shooting suspect,” SFPD said. “SFPD officers developed probable cause to arrest the suspect.”

Garcia-Calloway was booked into the San Francisco County Jail for charges related to the shooting. The SFPD Homicide Detail is currently working with the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office to charge Garcia-Calloway with murder.
