Authorities said a Delaware State Trooper and a suspect were killed following a shooting at a DMV in Wilmington.

Delaware State Police shared on social media that the incident unfolded Tuesday afternoon at the DMV on Hessler Boulevard.

In an update, Delaware Governor Matt Meyer said law enforcement “acted swiftly to secure the scene,” adding that the shooter was confirmed dead. Police later confirmed that a Delaware State Trooper was also killed during the incident.

Officials are urging the public to avoid the area as the investigation continues. NBC10 is working to gather additional details.

Delaware Department of Justice spokesman Mat Marshall shared a statement regarding this incident:

“The Attorney General is in communication with Delaware State Police and Governor Meyer and has dispatched senior prosecutors to Hessler Boulevard to assist with the investigation. We will defer to DSP on appropriate disclosure of any information about its investigation and would request the media’s forbearance with law enforcement as they respond to this situation.

The DOJ will provide any and all support that we can to State Police and the Department of Safety & Homeland Security. We are praying for the law enforcement family.”
