Video: Fifth suspect in Julio Foolio’s murder denied bond.
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The first of five people charged in the murder of Jacksonville rapper Julio Foolio is going on trial in Hillsborough County.
Jury selection began Monday in the trial of Alicia Andrews.
She is accused of working with Sean Gathright, Isaiah Chance Jr., Rashad Murphy, and Davion Murphy to track Julio Foolio to multiple locations before the group ambushed and killed the rapper at a Tampa Holiday Inn.
Three other people were also injured in the shooting, which happened in the summer of 2024.
Police believe the suspects were members of rival gangs that came together to plan and carry out the murder in Tampa. Julio Foolio, whose real name was Charles Jones, had been in the city celebrating his 26th birthday, according to detectives.
Investigators said Jones posted his location online multiple times before the shooting. The five suspects are believed to have followed him from place to place before opening fire on Jones’ car at the Holiday Inn.
Death Penalty Specialist Scott Harmon and Assistant State Attorneys Michelle Doherty and Anna Ismer are prosecuting the case.
If convicted, Andrews faces life in prison, according to the state attorney’s office.
