Tony Hawk’s historic ‘900’ skateboard sells for over $1M at auction

The skateboard Tony Hawk used to land the first-ever official “900” aerial maneuver at the 1999 X Games has sold for more than $1 million at auction.

Julien’s Auctions, which handled the sale, shared that the skateboard was sold for $1.15 million. The buyer was not disclosed.

The auction house originally estimated the skateboard to sell for around $500,000 to $700,000.

Hawk rode the board when he made history during the “Vert Best Trick” competition in San Francisco. He and Andy Macdonald also used it to capture gold in the “Vert Doubles” event that year.

“This is the first time I’ve been personally involved in every aspect of selling my own items,” Hawk told People. “I chose pieces from my collection that are not only meaningful to me, but also to a collector seeking a special ‘One of One’ like the ‘900’ deck. It will be bittersweet to part with gear that represents highlights of my career, but helping raise funds for The Skatepark Project makes it all worthwhile.”

Proceeds benefited The Skatepark Project, Hawk’s nonprofit that works to build skateparks in underserved areas.

A pioneer in skateboarding, Hawk has earned 13 X Games medals, including 10 golds, as well as 12 world championships and numerous other titles throughout his career.

The skateboard hit the auction block as part of Julien’s Auctions’ “Tony Hawk: The 900 Collection.”
