This St. Louis restaurant named one of 'America's best' by New York Times

MAPLEWOOD, Mo. – Robin, a restaurant located at 7268 Manchester Road in Maplewood, has been named one of ‘America’s Best Restaurants’ by The New York Times for 2025.

Chef Alec Schingel opened Robin in March, and the restaurant has quickly boomed with its innovative Midwestern dishes. It was the only restaurant in the state to make the list

Schingel says that this comes as a surprise, but they as a team have all been pushing really hard to put together a beautiful restaurant and dining experience.

Eric Asimov, the chief wine critic for The New York Times, praised Robin for its unique and playful take on Midwestern specialties that demonstrate Schingel’s skills.

Robin is the first brick-and-mortar restaurant from chef Schingel, who previously served as the executive chef at Winslow’s Table and operated “The Robin Project” as a series of pop-ups and private dinners.

Schingel has an impressive culinary career, having worked at various prestigious restaurants such as Niche, McCrady’s in Charleston, In de Wulf in Belgium, and Blue Hill at Stone Barns in New York.

The national recognition of Robin helps shed some light on St. Louis’ – and even Missouri’s strong dining scene on a national level, suggesting it may not just be a flyover state after all.
