Teen hospitalized in overnight shooting in SW Miami-Dade: Sheriffs

A 14-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after he was shot Saturday night in southwest Miami-Dade, deputies said.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies received reports of a shooting that happened around 8 p.m. in the area of Southwest 192nd Street and Southwest 113th Place.

Once at the scene, deputies found several spent casings, and they found the teen suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his arm.

The teen was then taken to a nearby hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews, where he remained in stable condition.

As the investigation into the shooting continues, deputies said the teen was walking to a nearby business, and he was struck by gunfire.

NBC6 spoke with a witness and community activist who said something needs to be done.

“Continuous shots, and then they stopped again,” the witness said. “We knew it was gunshots, so we all just started running in the house, got the kids and went inside. So between 20 and 30 gunshots, yeah.”

Yunior Diaz and his family were hanging out in their backyard, and Diaz said he started to hear what sounded like fireworks.

“Usually we hear a lot of fireworks go on,” he said. “We’re kinda used to hearing those things around here, but when we started hearing continuous shots and then they stopped again, we knew it was gunshot, so we all ran inside and grabbed the kids.”

Diaz said he heard 20-30 shots.

Another neighbor, who didn’t want to show his face, showed NBC6 the bullet holes that were left on his grandmother’s car.

“I was about to go outside and make a TikTok video, and then I heard gunshots, so I just fell down on the floor,” he said.

Deputies have not released a description of a suspect.
