Teen admits to shooting woman outside of Depew Plaza

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — An 18-year-old male pleaded guilty on Monday to multiple charges after he shot a woman in May outside of the Depew Plaza, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said.

Police said at 6:15 p.m., the teenager shot the victim, a 20-year-old female, with an illegal gun on the 5100 block of Broadway with the “intent to cause [her] death.” The woman was transported to ECMC to be treated for serious injuries.

The teenager, who was 17 years old at the time, was arrested by police later that night after he barricaded himself for hours following the shooting.

He pleaded guilty to the following:

  • one count of second-degree attempted murder
  • one count of first-degree assault
  • one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • one count of second-degree assault

The teenager is scheduled to return for sentencing on Dec. 11 and remains held without bail. A temporary order of protection issued on behalf of the victim is still in effect.
