(KRON) – A representative for PayPal said a “technical issue” was to blame after thousands of PayPal and Venmo users reported having difficultly accessing their accounts on Thursday.
The issues reportedly impacted users’ ability to log into the online payment platforms. The payment apps started to see spikes in reported login issues sometime after 8 a.m. PDT. An hour later, nearly 9,600 complaints had been reported to DownDetector among PayPal users and around 8,300 were reported from Venmo users.
Some frustrated users took to the services’ social media pages to complain.
“Is something wrong with yalls app?” one Venmo user asked. “Just keeps face scanning and loading over and over.”
“I can’t log into my account from the app, nor on the website,” another PayPal user said. “Please help me.”
Within hours, PayPal’s status page had indicated all systems were again operational. The app appeared to be functioning normally as of 10 a.m. PDT.
A representative for PayPal, which owns Venmo, confirmed that the temporary outage had been fixed, telling Nexstar’s KRON that “a brief technical issue impacting users that has since been resolved.”
PayPal did not provide more specific information on the nature of the outage.
Thursday’s disruptions come months after PayPal and Venmo experienced a similar technical issue that left users unable to use the checkout page, among other features.
