Sweet Jenny's offers free treat to furloughed workers during government shutdown

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Williamsville business is offering some sweet relief for federal workers who’ve been furloughed.

Sweet Jenny’s is giving free ice cream to government employees affected by the shutdown. Owner Howard Cadmus said it is important to show support for those in the community who may be struggling during this time.

“Even though it’s not going to help someone who might be receiving funds later who needs them now, to do things like pay their mortgage or pay their rent or help with the expenses, it’s still going to be something that can maybe make a moment seem lighter or put a smile on their face,” Cadmus said.

Cadmus posted on his business’s social media Tuesday morning letting people know that they’ll give free ice cream to any government employee who has been furloughed during the shutdown. Employees should bring their IDs.

“It’s a way for us to give back, to do something sweet, no pun intended, for people who are there for us. We’re only as strong as them and we’re here if they need us,” Cadmus said.

Sweet Jenny’s is located on East Spring Street in Williamsville.
