DENVER (KDVR) — It sounds delicious — a Golden burger, but this is no golden-flaked burger, this is a burger from Golden, and it’s the best in Colorado, according to a study by Only in Your State, a tool for identifying the “best of’s” in each state.
The survey had to pit the best burgers in a state against one another, and only one was able to be crowned the best of the best.
Bob’s Atomic Burger — Golden, Colo.
Golden’s Bob’s Atomic Burger reigned supreme, with Only in Your State saying:
“Bob’s Atomic Burgers is a local favorite in Golden, Colorado. It makes burgers the old-fashioned way: fresh-ground beef patties cooked to order, not premade or frozen. The place offers a “build-your-own”-style burger where you fill out a burger sleeve specifying your bun, cheese, and toppings, with options including green chiles, grilled onions, fried egg, bacon, and specialty sauces.
“Bob’s also caters to non-meat eaters: there are quinoa and black bean burgers available. One of its specialty offerings is the White Bronco, topped with a hashbrown patty and blue cheese.”
For the burger lovers of Colorado who may be interested in a nationwide hunt for delicious burgers, some of the most unique burgers from other states include:
The Peg House — Leggett, Calif.
California is massive.
It has cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego that attract travelers from all over the globe. However, the best burger in the state comes out of an unsuspecting place called Leggett, way up north, almost into Oregon.
Even more unsuspecting than the location is the burger joint itself. A small redwood structure that is held together by wooden pegs — something the restaurant’s name pays homage to.
The Peg House offers burgers, including:
- Grass-Fed Beef Burger
- Salmon Burger
- Big Foot Burger
- Sunset Burger
- Ortega Burger
- Aloha Burger
- Wildwest Burger
- Apricot Brie Burger
- Lost Coast Burger
Kuma’s Corner — Schaumburg, Ill.
Kuma’s Corner has the unique tradition of naming each of its burgers after legendary metal bands and uses unique, hearty toppings.
Signature burgers include the Kuma, which is made with applewood-smoked bacon, cheddar, a fried egg, lettuce, tomato and red onion on a pretzel bun.
Another favorite is the Plague Bringer, with deep-fried blackened chicken tenders, cheddar, bacon, Belgian waffle strips, maple syrup drizzle and raspberry aioli.
The restaurant also offers an ever-developing Burger of the Month.
The Workingman’s Friend — Indianapolis, Ind.
The oldest listed joint in the survey. The Workingman’s Friend has had plenty of time to develop its delicious flavors.
The restaurant has been in operation for over 100 years, serving the Indianapolis community since 1918.
Nothing fancy, just a good classic American burger is available on the menu that also features different offerings aside from burgers.
Just make sure you don’t take your credit card with you because, like the restaurant itself, the owners operate old school and only accept cash. A true survivor of the ages.
