COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The South Colonie Central School District is looking to challenge community members to get behind the wheel of a district bus at the School Bus Rodeo on October 18. In celebration of National School Bus Safety Week, the school district is hosting a sign and drive event in addition to the rodeo in the Sand Creek Middle School parking lot from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
The rodeo starts at 9:30 a.m. and features an obstacle course of everyday distractions and hazards. The course will test professional school bus drivers’ and community members’ driving skills.
After the rodeo, the school district will hold a sign and drive event in the parking lot from 10:30 a.m. to noon to recruit locals for new bus driver positions. The events serve as a kickoff to National School Bus Safety Week, which is October 20 through 24.
