ENCINITAS, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Looking for a creative, eco-friendly way to upcycle old clothes and learn about sustainable fashion?
This week, the Solana Center for Environmental Innovation announced its inviting the community to roll up their sleeves and get colorful at a Natural Indigo Tie-Dye Workshop on Saturday, Nov. 1, from noon to 2 p.m. The event will take place at the Solana Center’s Climate Solutions Hub, located at 137 North El Camino Real in Encinitas.
Open to ages 10 and up, the hands-on, family-friendly workshop will teach participants how to use natural, plant-based indigo dye to transform garments and textiles into wearable art. Attendees will also learn about the environmental impacts of clothing and textile waste, and how upcycling and natural dyes can help reduce their carbon footprint.
The cost to attend the workshop is $65 for adults (18+) and $55 for youth (ages 10–17). Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Organizers recommend wearing comfortable, closed-toed shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting messy. Since the event is outdoors, guests are encouraged to bring water and sun protection.
