“Heated Rivalry” took a magical turn this weekend courtesy of “Saturday Night Live.”
The sketch show returned from its winter break with its host, “Stranger Things” star Finn Wolfhard, playing Harry Potter in “Heated Wizardry,” a spoof of the buzzy new hockey show.
Harry and Ron (played by Ben Marshall) are back, a voiceover proclaims, for a new TV adaptation “hastily rewritten after the success of a certain other HBO show.” There’s no enemies-to-lovers trope this time around as friends Harry and Ron turn Hermione (played by Chloe Fineman) into a third wheel.
The sketch swaps hockey for quidditch, “because the only thing hotter than hockey is quidditch,” and offers no shortage of wand and broom innuendos throughout. Paying homage to the source material, Harry and Ron both show their butts, blurred of course.
Other notable “Harry Potter” characters make an appearance as well, including Severus Snape, Professor McGonagall, Mad-Eye Moody, Dobby and Hagrid, played in a surprising cameo by Jason Momoa.
“You’re a homo, Harry,” Hagrid says, riffing on the iconic “you’re a wizard, Harry,” line.
“Hagrid, you old queen,” Harry smiles back.
The buzzy hockey show was bound to be parodied after its 6-episode first season was a massive streaming hit on HBO Max, jettisoning its two main stars to A-list status almost overnight.
Wolfhard wasn’t alone in his first time hosting the show. He got support early in the monologue by his “Stranger Things” costars Gaten Matarazzo and Calen McLaughlin.
“SNL” returns next week with host Teyana Taylor and musical guest Geese.
