Roads are expected to be slick Friday morning after widespread snowfall accumulates across the Chicago region overnight, according to the National Weather Service.
“Widespread accumulating snowfall is expected tonight into Friday morning, and may cause slippery travel conditions on area roads,” NWS said.
McHenry, Lake, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, Kendall, Cook, Grundy, Will and Kankakee Counties in Northeast Illinois and Porter, Newton and Jasper Counties in Northwest Indiana are set to see the potentially hazardous snowfall, according to NWS.
Snow is expected to start falling around 10 p.m. Thursday, NWS said, and it will continue until around 9 a.m. Friday.
Skies will be mostly cloudy throughout the day Friday, with a high near 36 degrees, NWS said.
Accumulations are generally expected in the 1-to-2-inch range, according to NWS.
Periods of snow showers are also possible through the weekend, NWS predicted.
Temperatures are expected to drop over the weekend, with highs near 20 degrees on both Saturday and Sunday, according to NWS.
Sub-zero wind chills are expected early next week, approaching 20 degrees below zero Monday morning and remaining well below zero throughout the day and into Tuesday morning.
