SAP America lays off dozens at Palo Alto research center

(KRON) — An international software and information technology company based in Germany will be cutting dozens of jobs at one of its Bay Area facilities. SAP America, Inc., a division of its German parent company SAP, will be laying off 82 workers at its Palo Alto research facility.

According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed on the California Employment Development Department website, the job cuts were announced on Monday and will take effect on Nov. 21. The layoffs at SAP’s research lab at 3410 Hillview Ave. in Palo Alto will be permanent, according to the WARN notice.

SAP’s Palo Alto facility is part of its Labs Network, consisting of global research and development hubs across more than 20 different countries. In the Bay Area, there is also a SAP Lab facility on Townsend Street in San Francisco.

SAP, which maintains its U.S. headquarters in Pennsylvania, also has a Bay Area branch office in San Ramon. SAP provides a range of business applications and software solutions including cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and data analytics.
