San Diego Foundation on Thursday announced it awarded a record 9,081 grants worth $102.4 million to 2,552 nonprofits during the 2024-25 fiscal year.

The data, released in the foundation’s annual report, marks its 50th anniversary year and its Fifty & Forward campaign, which aims to award $500 million in grants and raise $1 billion to “shape a more just, equitable and resilient San Diego,” according to the report.

So far, the foundation and its donors have granted $407.6 million, 82% of the campaign’s grantmaking goal, and raised $984.3 million, 98% of the fundraising goal, as of the end of September.

“In challenging times, the story of San Diego is the generosity of its people and the determination of its nonprofits,” said Mark Stuart, president and CEO of San Diego Foundation. “We are profoundly grateful to the donors who are stepping up so nonprofits can keep doing the hard work of helping students pursue their dreams, supporting families working toward stability and caring for the places that make our region home.”

Some of the report’s highlights include a $4.9 million in scholarships awarded to nearly 1,300 local students through the Community Scholarship Program and a $15 million Ready to Learn initiative to expand early literacy.

According to the report, San Diego Foundation’s assets totaled $1.67 billion in 2025.
