San Diego CBP seizes $24 million worth of illegal drugs in August 2025

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) San Diego Field Office, for the month of August 2025, nearly 10,000 pounds of illegal drugs worth $24 million were seized throughout the region.

The CBP report said more than $340,000 in unreported currency was also intercepted last month.

“These seizures highlight the vigilance and expertise of our CBP officers and canines,” said San Diego Field Office Director of Field Operations Sidney Aki. “Every day, our personnel work diligently to protect our communities from the threats posed by narcotics and other contraband. Their efforts are a testament to our mission of securing the border and facilitating lawful trade and travel.”

Of 155 reported seizers by CBP officers, four were highlighted.

According to the CBP report, on August 13, at least 241 pounds of methamphetamine was discovered hidden within the gas tank of a commercial bus, following an alert from a CBP K-9. CBP said 52 packages were also discovered.

Both the narcotics and the bus were taken away by CBP. The driver was arrested after their visa was canceled.

San Ysidro Port of Entry

Nearly a week later, CBP officers at the San Ysidro Port of Entry arrested a person who was driving a black Jeep SUV. CBP officers said the Jeep was further inspected after a CBP K-9 alerted officers to its roof. Altogether they seized 86 packages, containing a combined 120 pounds of heroin and meth.

Over at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry Commercial Facility, a computer-generated alert during a secondary inspection led CBP officers to stop a 36-year-old male visa holder. The man was apparently driving a red commercial tractor-trailer with a shipment of furniture. During the inspection, CBP officers discovered 225 wood furniture pieces that were concealed with more than 1,300 pounds of meth. According to the CBP report, the 36-year-old’s visa was canceled.

Tecate Port of Entry

The following day, the visa of a 32-year-old man was canceled by CBP officers for hiding and attempting to import 99 packages of meth stuffed inside barrels of jalapeno paste. The drugs weighed nearly 560 pounds and were taken away by the CBP.

According to the CBP report, the tractor-trailer was also seized.

“CBP reminds the public that individuals must declare all items they are bringing into the United States, including currency and agricultural products,” read the CBP report. “Failure to do so can result in penalties or seizure of the items.”

CBP San Diego Field Office says its recent report shows the continued effort “to disrupt illegal activity at the border and throughout the region.”
