Rockies hire Ian Levin as assistant general manager

The rebuilding Rockies are going to need name tags in their front office, because, as promised, they keep bringing in new faces.

The latest addition is longtime New York Mets executive Ian Levin, who was named a Rockies assistant general manager on Monday.

“Ian brings a proven record of strategic leadership, key roster decision-making, and innovative player performance initiatives,” Paul DePodesta, president of baseball operations, said in a statement. “With extensive experience across major league operations, research and development, player development and amateur scouting, Ian will strengthen every part of our operation. We couldn’t be more excited to bring him to the Rockies.”

Levin is reuniting with DePodesta in Colorado. DePodesta oversaw amateur scouting and player development for the Mets from 2011-15 before accepting a job as the NFL’s Cleveland Browns’ chief strategy officer.

Levin is the second Mets executive to come to Colorado. Last week, Tommy Tanous, an assistant GM for scouting and player development with the Mets, was hired by the Rockies as an assistant GM. Other hires made on DePodesta’s watch include assistant GM Josh Byrnes and director of pitching Matt Daniels.

Levin, who spent 20 years in various roles with the Mets, eventually rose to the position of vice president and assistant general manager.

Levin’s Mets career began as a media relations intern in 2005 before he moved into baseball operations the following season. His experience with the Mets covered a wide range of jobs. He worked in amateur scouting (2007-12) and baseball analytics (2013-14) before serving as the club’s director of minor league operations (2015-16) and director of player development (2017-18).

Levin was elevated to senior director of baseball operations in December 2018, a role he held through June 2021, when he was named vice president and assistant general manager, a position he held through December 2024.

Following his tenure with the Mets, Levin founded his own company, OneOneSports, in 2025. The company assists college programs with hiring leadership, infrastructure design, player evaluation and roster strategy.
