Hear or see low-flying planes over your house on Wednesday evening?
Multiple residents reported on the community app Neighbors that they saw several military planes and choppers flying low in the sky in Broward County, including in cities Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and Cooper City. Social media and community apps were filled with reports of sightings, some including video.
“What’s up with the multiple sets of helicopters flying over?” one resident inquired on Neighbors.
“Anyone noticing helicopters and military planes flying around? What is going on?” another said.
Officials at North Perry Airport told NBC6 that they would not comment on the planes – but only said it was a “rehearsal.”
And on Thursday morning, the U.S. Coast Guard issued a statement that read:
“Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders received a report of an unmanned, adrift vessel approximately 10 miles east of Cape Florida Lighthouse. Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 helicopter aircrew and Station Miami Beach’s crew deployed and conducted search patterns with no findings. There were no reports of missing people. The case has been suspended, pending the development of new information.”
NBC6 has reached out to authorities for clarification.
