Renderings show plans for what could become of Center City's Wanamaker Building

New plans have been revealed, offering the first glimpse at what the future may hold for Center City’s historic Wanamaker Building.

Renderings released by the building’s owner show proposed changes to the historic property on 13th Street.

Plans call for the former Macy’s space on the first three floors to be split into several smaller retail stores.

Most of the upper floors would be turned into loft apartments, and a new rooftop bar is also part of the proposal.

The plans still need approval from the Philadelphia Historical Commission. If approved, construction could begin early next year.

Built in 1911, the Wanamaker building is a National Historic Landmark, home to the massive Wanamaker organ, the beloved Eagle statue, the Crystal Tea Room — Philadelphia’s largest banquet hall — and the famous Dickens Village and Holiday Light Show.
