Redwood City liquor store fire victim remembered as 'hardworking, humble, and generous'

(KRON) — One of the victims who died in an early morning blaze at a Redwood City liquor store last week is being remembered as a father and husband who sacrificed “precious time with his family to provide them with a better life.” Benigno Nuguid Pare, 56, was found dead early on the morning of Nov. 3 when firefighters responded to an active fire where he worked at Avenue Liquor Store on Roosevelt Avenue.

Pare’s passing has left “an unfillable void in the hearts of everyone who knew him — his colleagues, friends, and especially his wife and four children,” read a fundraiser created on his behalf.

“Benny was one of the most hardworking, humble, and generous people I’ve ever met,” the fundraiser continued. “He was the kind of person who always showed up with a smile, helped without hesitation, and gave his all — both at work and for his family.”

“He spent years working away from home, sacrificing precious time with his family to provide them with a better life,” the fundraiser continued. “His dedication and love knew no limits.”

Pare was one of two people found deceased at the liquor store, alongside 26-year-old Anil Kumar Sharma. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire, police said Monday.

Funds raised by the fundraiser will go to cover his funeral expenses, transport his remains to the Philippines, and provide financial support for his wife and children.

“Benny gave to much of himself to everyone around him,” the fundraiser said. “Now, it’ our turn to give back — to stand by the family he cherished so deeply during this devastating time.”
