SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victims of several deadly San Diego crashes that happened in recent weeks, including one woman who was found dead 12 hours after a hit-and-run car crash and another woman who was fatally hit by multiple cars.
Fatal crash near Sea World Drive
The medical examiner’s office identified Celeste Necochea, 61, who was found dead on the side of the road about 12 hours after a hit-and-run car crash where she was reported to be a passenger.
Necochea was found under damaged trees and bushes by someone passing by around 1 p.m. on August 30 near the area of the crash the night before on Sea World Drive near West Mission Bay Drive, according to the medical examiner.
The incident is under investigation by the San Diego Police Department. Police said earlier this month there is no suspect in custody and did not provide details of a possible suspect or the driver who fled on foot from the scene.
Fatal crash Santee
The medical examiner’s office has identified 49-year-old Curtis Van Atta Jr., of Santee, California, who died while driving a car that collided with other vehicles and a pole.
The crash happened in the 8900 block of Carlton Hills Boulevard in Santee on September 1, and he remained in the hospital until he died on September 3, the medical examiner reports.
The fatal crash is under investigation by the San Diego Sheriff’s Office.
Fatal crash Vista
The medical examiner’s office has identified 46-year-old Alfredo Trevino, of Vista, California, who died while driving a motorcycle along Highway 79, north of Oak Lake Lane, in Julian around 7 p.m. on September 4.
The medical examiner’s officer reports Trevino was driving a motorcycle when he reportedly crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with an SUV. California Highway Patrol reports both the rider and passenger were ejected from the motorcycle. Trevino was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger on the motorcycle was seriously injured and taken to the hospital, CHP reports. The driver and passenger of the car had minor injuries.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal crash.
Fatal crash San Diego
The medical examiner’s office has identified 38-year-old Javier Oceguera Jr., of San Diego, who died when the car he was driving veered off the road for unknown reasons and hit a tree before catching on fire.
The crash happened on southbound I-5 at the Tocayo off-ramp in San Diego around 6 p.m. on August 29. Oceguera Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the medical examiner.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal crash.
Fatal crash Ramona
The medical examiner’s office has identified 44-year-old Arturo Flores, who died on August 28 after the pickup truck he was a passenger in swerved to avoid another vehicle and overturned in an embankment.
Flores was pronounced dead at the scene along Highway 78, east of Weekend Villa Road, in Ramona, according to the medical examiner.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal crash.
Pedestrian hit by multiple vehicles in San Diego
The medical examiner’s office has identified 62-year-old Maria Mercado Alvarez as the pedestrian who was killed while walking in the street along Home Avenue in San Diego on August 24.
The medical examiner reports Alvarez was struck by multiple vehicles that were traveling west in the 4500 block of Home Avenue around 8:20 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The San Diego Police Department is investigating the fatal pedestrian collision.
Fatal crash Melrose Drive Vista
The medical examiner’s office has identified 24-year-old Miguel Mozo, of Vista, California, who died when the car he was driving left the road, flipped and hit a light pole and bushes near the Shadowridge Golf Club in Vista overnight around 4:30 a.m. on August 23.
Mozo was pronounced dead at the scene in the 1700 block of Melrose Drive, between Shadowridge Drive and Longhorn Drive, in Vista, according to the medical examiner.
The fatal crash is under investigation by the San Diego Sheriff’s Office.
Fatal crash Otay Mesa
The medical examiner’s office has identified 43-year-old Kevin Luis, who died when he drove his pickup truck onto the shoulder on Highway 905 in Otay Mesa and struck an out of service transit bus.
Luis was pronounced dead at the scene east of Picador Boulevard on Highway 905 around 3 p.m. on August 20, according to the medical examiner.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal crash.
