RAVENA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Last week’s surprising lost to Lansingburgh served as a major wake-up call for the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk football team.
Fueled by the frustration of falling to the Knights for the first time since 2012, Eric Stott’s bunch responded in emphatic fashion Friday night, thrashing Green Tech – a team that had only lost to Lansingburgh by two points in Week 2 – 58-8.
While there’s no such thing as a perfect game in football, RCS came about as close to that as possible. On nine possessions, the Ravens scored eight touchdowns. The only reason they didn’t go 9-9 was because the game clock struck triple zeros in the fourth quarter on their ninth series.
Of those eight touchdowns, five came in the first half, and Ravena established a 37-0 lead by halftime. Ravens quarterback Mason Carkner was responsible for four of those five scores, racking up one on the ground and three through the air.
Defensively, RCS didn’t surrender any points until the 2:42 mark of the final stanza, starting the game on a 58-0 run.
RCS improves to 4-1 overall, 4-1 in league play and hits the road for a massive Week 6 matchup with Glens Falls – the top team in Class B. Black Bears are ranked eighth in the state.
Green Tech falls to 2-3, 2-3, and travels to Schalmont next Friday.
