Police searching for child who was caught on camera killing duck in Fort Lauderdale

Police in Fort Lauderdale are searching for a child who was caught on camera killing a duck.

Video released by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department on Wednesday shows the incident back on Jan. 18 in the 300 block of Southwest 8th Avenue.

The video shows two young children running outside when one of them chases a duck, grabs it, then proceeds to repeatedly stomp on it, ultimately killing it.

The video has now been shared more than a thousand times.

“It was just an incredibly disturbing sight, seeing, you know, a minor run around a really nice neighborhood right here and just abusing animals like that,” said viewer Tyler Sutten.

Ducks appear to be a common sighting in the Fort Lauderdale neighborhood.

“Obviously some deeper things is going on there with you know family, parenting, and stuff like that. But just holding your kids accountable is absolutely one of the most important things,” Sutten said.

Police said their Animal Cruelty Unit is working to identify the child, calling him a suspect of aggravated animal cruelty, and asking for the public’s assistance.

Sutten believes the child’s parents should also face questions.

“I worked in childcare for a long time, so when you see a kid acting and doing outlandish behavior, especially illegal behavior, parents should absolutely be held accountable for that every single time,” he said.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 954-579-4944 or Broward Crimestoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
