The Philadelphia Police Department has teamed up with Philabundance to help out this holiday season.
“In just two weeks, officers and our professional staff from all over our police department: Both our uniformed units, our detective bureaus, all our specialized units that you don’t usually see, that the community doesn’t have daily contact with, raised their own food,” Deputy Commissioner Mike Cram said.
On Monday, Dec. 1, officers filled police vehicles with boxes of food that they had collected to be donated to the nonprofit.
Officials said that the officers collected 4,453 pounds of food that will help provide 3,700 meals for families in need.
Huge thanks to all @phillypolice employees who supported our holiday food drive. Together we collected 4,453 lbs of food – over 3,700 meals for families in need! Grateful to our partners at @Philabundance for helping us support our neighbors! #OnePhilly pic.twitter.com/ZShRyhZjcb

“We had Philabundance boxes at every location. They filled them up,” Commissioner Cram explained. “People care and your police department cares as well.”
The nonperishable and canned food items will then be distributed by Philabundance partners including other nonprofits and churches in the city.
“There’s far too many people who are food insecure. One in three kids in our city are food insecure and that’s why our work is that much more important,” Philabundance CEO Loree Jones Brown said.
The boxes may have been emptied on Monday, but there’s still time to fill them up again this holiday season.
If you would like to help, Philabundance is looking for volunteers to sort out all of the food.
For anyone looking to donate food, Philabundance drop boxes have been set up in police districts throughout the city.
