A person has died after they were hit and trapped underneath a Boston University Medical School shuttle bus in Boston’s South End Monday morning.
Boston police responded to a call for a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian just before 8 a.m. near the intersection of Albany Street and Massachusetts Avenue
Investigators were seen placing evidence markers around the bus and taking picture of the person’s belongings near the wheels.
“I seen it, the sneakers stuck under the bus. One was stuck in the middle, one was stuck near the front,” said William O’Connor, who saw the aftermath of the crash.
Albany Street was closed in both directions between Northampton Street and Massachusetts Avenue and the Massachusetts Avenue Connector inbound toward Boston Medical Center. In the busy area, there are cars exiting the expressway, and people coming and going from the Medical Center. There is also a homeless shelter and many service providers.
Sue Sullivan has worked to solve the drug addiction and homelessness problems that have long plagued the area.
“When you’re impaired, you are unpredictable. You could all of a sudden just step onto the street and that’s not an uncommon occurrence,” said Sullivan, Executive Director of the Newmarket Business Improvement District. “We need to decentralize services because there are so many services heavily on the corner, which means there’s alot of people in and out all day long.”
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
