Person critically injured after leaping from fourth-floor of burning Brooklyn building

A person jumped from the fourth floor of a Brooklyn building after a fire broke out there Tuesday morning, according to officials.

A call about the fire on Keap Street near Marcy Avenue in Williamsburg came in around 11:30 a.m. The flames were believed to have started in a kitchen, though crews were still working to determine how exactly the fire erupted.

Video posted to the Citizen app showed smoke billowing from the top floor. The person who leapt out the window was taken to the hospital in critical condition, officials said.

The bomb squad was also called to the building after there were concerns about a suspicious device in an apartment in the walk-up, but it ended up being workout equipment.

It took less than an hour to contain the flames, the FDNY said. An investigation into the fire is ongoing.
