Three people wearing Halloween masks banged on a family’s door in Alexandria in what initially seemed like a prank – and then said they would break in and kill the residents, the police chief said.
Residents told Alexandria police they heard knocking on their door on Tuesday after about 9:30 p.m.
“They began to make threatening and alarming comments,” Alexandria Chief of Police Tarrick McGuire said on a video call with reporters on Thursday.
“They said, ‘If you do not come out, we will come in,’ and also threatened to do bodily harm to their family, stating they would ultimately kill them,” he continued.
Video obtained by News4 appears to show what happened, including people tugging on the door, leaving and threatening to return.
A woman can be heard asking, “Who is it?”
“Your worst nightmare!” more than one person replies.
McGuire called what happened “very alarming” and said police are still searching for the suspects, who could be charged with attempted burglary.
“Our detectives are continuing to work through this information,” the chief said.
Anyone with potentially relevant information is asked to contact police. McGuire urged the suspects to come forward.
“If you are out there and you are the one that engaged in this type of behavior, we’re actively searching for you. We’re ultimately going to find you,” he said.
