The 2025 Patrick Henry High girls’ flag football team ran its way into the record books last Saturday in Escondido, scoring its first-ever championship.

With a 25-20 win over Mount Carmel High for the CIF Division IV title, the Lady Patriots will always be remembered at the school as the first to capture the crown.

“We’re the first to do it this way, but not the last — that’s what making history means,” Piper McGlenn, sophomore defensive back, said.

For Lexi Raymond, junior quarterback, the team’s ability to come together was big this season. Raymond herself had a big game, tossing three touchdowns in the process.

“Each of us continued to push each other in early practices to late games, and it led us to winning the championship, together,” Raymond said. “I couldn’t have asked for a better team, and to be the first girls’ flag football team at Patrick Henry to accomplish this is such an amazing story. I can’t wait to share when I’m older.”

“Winning feels amazing, not just because you came out on top, but because you know how hard you worked to get there,” Natalie Aguirre-Lopez, sophomore defensive back, said.

“So many people doubted us, but the girls never stopped believing,” said Alona “Lonii” Harper, the team’s head coach. “We shut out the noise and just played our game. I’m beyond proud to make history with this team. None of it would’ve been possible without my amazing coaching staff.”

Senior Ayla-Grace Collins caught a pair of touchdowns, while freshman Olive Murillo caught a touchdown pass and also scored on a punt return.
