Pasadena vigil shows solidarity to individuals detained by ICE operation

A vigil was held Monday in Pasadena after several immigration enforcement raids occurred in the city earlier in the day, according to nonprofit organization National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON).

Dozens of people gathered at the corner of Raymond Street and Villa Avenue with candles in hand and with signs denouncing immigration raids. The vigil was held in solidarity with the individuals who were affected by Monday’s operation. According to NDLON, three to seven people were detained by immigration agents near those crosswalks during the afternoon.

A woman who said her husband was detained by the federal agents spoke to the crowd.

“No matter the situation, he would always try his best to provide for us,” Selena Ayala said. “During the fires last year, he tried his best to help others no matter how difficult the situation was. I have faith in God that he will protect my husband no matter what happens.”

Monday’s vigil brought together religious leaders, activists and community members, NDLON said.

NBC4 has reached out to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for comment and confirmation on the detentions.
