A long-awaited update brings good news for Schuylkill River Trail users! Progress is being made to repair a sinkhole on the trail that has caused a months-long closure.
In October, the trail between Race Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard was closed after a large sinkhole formed beneath the asphalt just north of the SEPTA Bridge.
At the time, fencing was installed to block off the affected area as crews assessed the damage.

In an update, officials shared that repair work is now underway. Crews have already poured a concrete layer and plan to backfill the remaining area with soil before adding a new asphalt surface in the coming days.
Officials hope to reopen the trail by the end of December or, at the latest, during the first week of January.
Until then, walkers, bikers, and runners are urged to navigate around the closed section.
