Part of Northeast Philly home collapsed as crews worked to knock down fire

Crews worked to extinguish a large fire at a home in Northeast Philadelphia on Friday.

Firefighters were called to a home on the 9400 block of Kirkwood Road just after 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 10 where they found heavy fire coming from a two-story twin home, according to a spokesperson with the Philadelphia Fire Department.

A part of the house ultimately collapsed because of the fire, officials said.

“I was laying on the bed and I heard a very loud noise,” resident Nana Boadu told NBC10. “I ran down. When I came out the back, I saw somebody come out from the other building and I saw a fire coming from there.”

SkyForce10 was over the scene just after 2 p.m. where smoke could be seen coming from a building that appears to be a twin home.

The fire was officially placed under control at 2:27 p.m., officials said.

According to the fire department, one person was treated by medics at the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital where they were placed in stable condition.

The American Red Cross announced that they are helping four residents who were impacted by this fire.

The Philadelphia Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire.
