Padres bust slump, hammer 4 home runs to blow out Rockies

Throughout the 2025 season the Padres have been prone to prolonged periods of offensive ineffectiveness. Just this week they’ve scored exactly two runs in four straight games. However, when they inevitably do break out of the skid they tend to do it in spectacular fashion.

That’s what happened on Saturday night at Petco Park. The Friars blasted three home runs in an 11-3 shellacking of the woeful Colorado Rockies. The party really got started in the 2nd inning, thanks to Fernando Tatis Jr.

When the young star is using the entire field he’s incredibly difficult to get out and he ripped a 2-run homer to right-centerfield, a blast that seemed to allow the entire dugout to give a collective cathartic exhale.

In the 3rd inning Manny Machado ripped a solo home run. After suffering through a 2-for-30 skid he’s gone deep in two straight games. Machado also had a two-run single and was on base three times. A couple of batters later Jackson Merrill joined the homer parade with a solo blast to straightaway centerfield. It all three of those guys are swinging the bat well down the stretch San Diego will be a very dangerous club.

Ramon Laureano, the best addition any team made at the trade deadline, added a two-run double and defensive specialist Bryce Johnson launched his second career home run to put the bow on the win.

Also of note was a promising start by Dylan Cease. The enigmatic ace struck out six and allowed one run over 6.0 innings, giving him a 5th straight season with 200 or more punchouts. The Padres can win the four-game series on Sunday afternoon with Yu Darvish on the mound against German Marquez.
