Opening day at Smith's Orchard Cider Mill

PENDLETON, N.Y. (WIVB) — A fall favorite in Pendleton is now open for the season.

Smith’s Orchard Cider Mill officially opened on Saturday. Families headed out on opening day to get their hands on some sweet apple treats.

“We’ve been coming here every year … we love it here,” said Jennifer Terranova.

Opening day also drew in people from out of town, like Ken and Susan Reach, who are visiting from Tennessee.

“We were just looking for something fun to do today,” Susan said. “We came out to apple pick, we tasted their delicious apple cider and got a half dozen of their apple donuts. So we’re just excited to be here.”

Owner Brendan Smith said they like to keep things really simple so that families have more time to spend together.

“People that come here, they’re not going to spend a ton of money,” Smith said. “They’re just going to be able to have a nice time, relax, and then go home.”

And while visitors relax, staff members at the cider mill are hard at work preparing for a busy season.

“Getting everything ready for all the customers to come for a busy season and a busy schedule,” Smith said. “We’ve got a lot of apples … it’s going to be a lot of good times here this year.”
