New York cannabis retail sales reach $1.06B for 2025 so far

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Although there are still three months left in the year, New York State has already surpassed $1.06 billion in legal cannabis retail sales for 2025. The New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) stated that sales show rapid growth in the state’s regulated market at the board’s meeting on Tuesday.

At the meeting, board members approved 46 adult-use licenses, bringing the state to 1,904 licenses issued. Also approved at the meeting was a Cannabis Education Advisory Panel (CEAP), where a statewide group leads youth-focused cannabis education.

OCM said the panel will have up to 15 members who are public health experts, educators, people with lived experiences, clinicians, and researchers. Acting Executive Director of the Office of Cannabis Management, Felicia A.B. Reid, said the panels’ launch is another step toward ensuring community needs and their perspectives are considered.

“Information is power and education is the heartbeat of progress,” Reid said. “Through CEAP, OCM looks to empower communities to make informed choices and foster a deeper sense of trust in New York’s evolving cannabis industry. With the upcoming rollout of the Seed-to-Sale system and other key initiatives, OCM is in a moment of tremendous growth and innovation.”

OCM board members also addressed and cleared up confusion about provisional licenses with varying expirations by extending all provisional CAURD and provisional adult-use licenses until December 31, 2026. There are currently 464 legal dispensaries that are open and operating across New York.
