COHOES, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A taste of Ireland has come to Cohoes. Conroy’s Irish Tavern, located on Remsen Street, celebrated its grand opening on Tuesday.
Construction had begun on the restaurant in December 2024. Owner Don Russell, who had owned Irish Mist in Troy for 12 years before moving to Cohoes, said he wanted to open Conroy’s as a way to return to his roots.
“After three weeks of a soft opening, the response has been great,” Russell told NEWS10. “You work hard to develop a vision and to be able to finally share it with the public is amazing.”
The Conroy’s menu — which is gluten-free friendly — features a variety of typical Irish meals, including bangers and mash, fish and chips and shepherd’s pie, as well as several other decadent dishes and 13 taps. Customers can either enjoy their food on the outdoor patio with a game of cornhole or inside watching sports games on the televisions.
“Customers are loving the from-scratch food coming from our kitchen,” said Russell, who has been cooking for over 25 years.
Conroy’s Irish Tavern is located at 165 Remsen Street. It is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., on Fridays and Saturdays from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and on Sundays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. The full menu can be viewed on the Remsen Street Dining website.
