SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Downtown Schenectady has a new coffee shop. 518 Coffee Bar, located at 604 Union Street, had its grand opening on Saturday.
518 Coffee Bar is owned by Shah Mohammad, who spent almost a decade working in the tech world. He uses non-traditional Ethiopian coffee beans for 518 Coffee Bar’s espresso and explores the flavors of regions such as Guatemala and Honduras.
“It’s been a constant in my life, fueling long workdays and becoming a ritual of comfort during my travels around the world,” said Mohammad. “Along the way, I developed a deep appreciation for coffee’s ability to tell a story of culture, craft, and community.”
The 518 Coffee Bar menu features a variety of hot and iced coffee beverages, matcha, chai, and tea, as well as specialty drinks and pastries. The shop’s hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Mohammad plans to eventually expand the shop’s hours. He also has plans for a “Phase 2,” which the shop will begin work on in the winter.
