Minneapolis hosted the The American Indian Science and Engineering Society’s national conference this week, filling the convention center with thousands of Native scientists, engineers and educators. MPR News reports that the three-day event is not just focused on STEM innovation, but also on encouraging “ways to think about how Indigenous identity and Indigenous philosophy are interwoven with math, science and technology.”

Gov. Walz announced Thursday that he plans to sue the Trump administration if military forces are deployed to Minnesota as they have been to cities around the country, most recently in Chicago. “The DFL governor said he’s preparing for the possible deployment of troops from other states into the Twin Cities and is working to understand how the chain of command would work,” the Minnesota Star Tribune reports. Oregon and Illinois have already attempted to stop deployment with lawsuits and faced off with federal lawyers on Thursday.

Some in-home disability providers are raising concerns that a recent change in state law meant to crack-down on fraud threatens the viability of their program. “We are teetering on the edge of collapse, and nobody seems to be focusing on the real issue,” Josh Berg, director of Minnesota services and strategic growth for nonprofit Accessible Space, Inc., told KSTP.

The state began a 10-year action plan aimed at improving drinking water on Thursday. “This study is happening at the same time the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is working on a state-funded report detailing just how many microplastics are in Minnesota’s surface, drinking, and groundwater,” WCCO reports.

The Minnesota Department of Human Rights has settled two separate cases involving “blatant workplace sex discrimination.” The Department found that Lakes Concrete Plus in Bemidji violated the Minnesota Human Rights act when it fired a concrete truck driver based on her gender. Key Lime Air, an airline in Thief River Falls, “refused to hire a qualified job applicant for a flight attendant position because he is a man,” Bring Me The News reports.
